The need for high-quality rainfall and water resources information contrasts the observed decline of in-situ measuring stations worldwide. As a result, globally available and regionalized remote sensing and model-based data will be used for improved water management.more


Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program, Sri Lanka

The island state of Sri Lanka aims to take better advantage of its water resources. Consequently, the Mahaweli Ministry for Development and Environment has launched a major investment programme for sustainable irrigation and drinking water supplies from the Mahaweli River Basin. The program is being financed by the Asian Development Bank.more

Extension Waldeck 2 PSP (WA2+), Germany

Waldeck 2 pumped storage plant with a capacity of 2 x 240 MW was built from 1969 to 1975. It is situated downstream of the Edertal dam west of Kassel in Germany. During its design and construction possible extensions were already accounted for. E.g., a second pressure pipe was installed at the upper basin’s intake structure which makes it now possible to realise Waldeck 2+ with an own cavern a down waterways without disturbing the operation of the existing plant. more


Underground Structure Shahid Abbaspour Dam, Iran

The Shahid Abbaspour (Karun I) Hydroelectric Power Plant is located in the western Iranian province of Khuzestan. Due to the growing demand in peak power the Ministry of Energy decided to extend the existing Karun I power plant with an installed capacity of 1000 MW by a further 1000 MW.more
