Masterplan for Power Generation and Transmission in Kenya - Lahmeyer advises the Government

Kenya’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum as well as the Energy Regulatory Commission pursue the objective to make power supply environmentally sound, economic, and reliable in future. Lahmeyer International’s economists and engineers and their partners will develop appropriate strategic solutions for the fields of power generation and transmission within the scope of a masterplan. The project started in November 2013, and is expected to run for two years.

In addition to modern fossil fuelled power plants, an increased use of renewable energy sources, especially geothermal energy, hydropower, and wind energy as well as solar radiation will in future cover the rapidly growing electricity demand. Therefore, optimal technical concepts and also the necessary energy policy framework need to be developed.

The masterplan will deal with the entire electricity supply chain. Building on the audit results of major mainly industrial clients, the Lahmeyer experts will provide recommendations for action matching to optimise the use of electricity for production, conversion, and ancillary facilities.
