Lahmeyer at the IRES 2018: Presentation on pooling of battery and pumped energy storage

The 12th International Renewable Energy Storage Conference will take place from 13 to 15 March 2018 in Düsseldorf

The 12th International Renewable Energy Storage Conference will take place from 13 to 15 March 2018 in Düsseldorf

From 13 to 15 March 2018, the non-profit organisation EUROSOLAR e.V. will hold the 12th International Renewable Energy Storage Conference (IRES 2018) in Düsseldorf. The event offers a platform for experts from organisations and companies to present and discuss the latest scientific developments in storage technologies. On this occasion, the Lahmeyer experts Achim Schreider, Project manager / Energy Advisor, and Ralf Bucher, Department Head Power Transmission and Distribution, will present a paper on the combined operation of battery storage and pumped storage plants (PSP).

The increasing complexity of energy networks necessitates the use of rapid and powerful energy storage. In their presentation, Achim Schreider and Ralf Bucher discuss the possibility to combine fast-ramping battery energy storage and high-capacity pumped hydro. A system pooling both technologies can benefit from the fast ramping capability of batteries and the large autonomy of the PSP. Therefore, the system operator is able to serve both the primary and the secondary reserve markets.

An abstract of the paper with the title “An auspicious combination: Fast-ramping battery energy storage and high-capacity pumped hydro” can be downloaded here:
