Cables and Overhead Lines

Cables and overhead lines are the primary energy transportation links, forming the connections between the individual substations within high and medium voltage grids. Depending on the network parameters and other project-specific conditions, we optimise the design of the overhead lines, including the selection between aluminium or copper conductors, supported by lattice steel towers, or steel or concrete poles and equipped with porcelain, glass or polymeric insulators. Submarine or underground cables have their own special requirements for the material of the conductors, and in particular for the most appropriate type of insulation, mass or plastic, protective sheathing etc.

For the detailed checking of overhead line designs, prepared by specialist suppliers, we apply software packages such as PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, LINEA, and PROSPER.

Our Competencies:

  • Line routing
  • Tower spotting and sag calculations
  • Overhead line conductors including optical fibres (OPGW)
  • Insulators and fittings
  • Cable routing
  • Plastic and mass-insulated cables
  • Fibre optic cables (OFC)
  • Cable joints and terminations
