Extension of the Vianden Pumped Storage Scheme, Unit 11, Luxemburg
The pressure shaft for the scheduled 200 MW of Unit 11 currently under construction as extension of the existing 1100 MW Vianden Pumped Storage Scheme was successfully broken through on 18.01.2011. The shaft of 280 m in depth and 5.46 m in diameter was excavated by using the raise-boring method. The pilot hole was drilled in 18 days and broke through into the lower pressure tunnel on 30.11.2010 showing a misalignment of a few centimetres only. The reaming commenced on 09.12.2010 and was completed in 28 working days giving an average of 10 m per day.
