Sudan: The SHEREIK Hydropower Project
On April 30th, 2009, the Tenders for "Contract 1 - Civil Works and Hydromechanical Equipment" for the new SHEREIK Hydropower Project were opened. The total installed capacity of this power plant will reach 420 MW and will require the construction of an almost 4 km long dam structure crossing the River Nile. The spillway has been designed for a peak flow of 20,000 m³/s. For this Project, Lahmeyer International has been providing engineering services since 2007, comprising the preparation of the feasibility study and international tender documents. The evaluation of the Tenders is currently in progress. Contract negotiations with the successfull contractor will commence in the near future.
