Commissioning of the Baglihar Hydro Power Project, Stage 1, Jammu & Kashmir.

On 1st April 2009 the commissioning of the Baglihar hydroelectric power plant, located in the Indian State of Jammu & Kashmir, was completed with the last 150 MW turbine beginning commercial operation.

The Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Sing Ji, had inaugurated the plant on the River Chenab on the 10th October 2007 on the occasion of the commissioning of the first turbine.

The total installed capacity of Phase 1 of the project is 3 x 150 MW. A reservoir with a storage volume of 475 million cubic metres has been formed by the construction of a 143m high concrete gravity dam.

Starting in 1998 Lahmeyer International was commissioned by the Jammu & Kashmir Power Development Corporation with the review of designs and contracts, followed by assistance with contract negotiations, construction supervision and contract management.
