Lahmeyer International providing Owners Engineer Services for a Photovoltaic-Vegetal Oil Hybrid Power Plant on the Galapagos Islands
The Ecuadorian Ministry of Energy (MEER) and the German Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) contracted Lahmeyer International to provide owner’s engineering services to Elecgalapgos for the one MW Hybrid-Power-Plant. This includes design, tendering, supervision of construction and operation during the warranty period.
The project will provide electric power for the island Isabella completely from renewable sources. This will eliminate the emission of pollutants and the risk of oil contamination associated with the existing diesel generator. Technically the project has pilot character being the first system of its type within this capacity range. Located on the Galapagos Islands – a Laboratory of Evolution of Species – the project will showcase the current state of development of renewable energies providing economically feasible 100% of renewable power.
